The Madras High Court lifted the interim stay on Mersal today. The court had ordered an interim ban on the title with regard to a petition filed by AR Film Factory’s Rajendran.
The court has now dismissed the petition.
Producer Hema Rukmani told Silverscreen, “Justice has prevailed. We are happy to retain the title. We as a team stood together during this issue.”
Director Atlee tweeted:
#Mersal ???

The title was also trademarked by its makers recently, a first for a South Indian film.
Since Rajendran’s film – Mersalaayitten – also has a similar title, he’d claimed that the release of Mersal might affect his film’s business.
Mersal is now expected to hit the screens on Deepavali, if the double taxation issue is resolved as well.
