Malayalam actor Ajith Kumar, also known as Kollam Ajith Kumar, died on Thursday after suffering from stomach related ailments. He was 56.
The actor is noted for his negative roles in Malayalam cinema. He started his career as an assistant to director Padmarajan and then started his acting career in one of Padmarajan’s movie, Parannu, Parannu, Parannu in 1984. He went on to become a part of over 500 films in Malayalam ,Tamil and Telugu.
He had become a regular choice for villain roles, opposite Mohanlal, Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. Some of his memorable performances includes Kasim in Mohanlal starrer Irupatham Noottandu and as a comical henchman in Nadodikattu. Ajith had turned into a writer-director with the film Calling Bell in 2016.
He is survived by his wife Prameela, daughter Gayathri and son Sreehari. The last rites and rituals will take place in Kollam today.
