‘Manikarnika’ Not To Clash Horns With ‘2.0’; Awaits Release Date Of The Rajinikanth Starrer 2.0

The makers of Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi is looking to avoid a box office clash with Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film 2.0Manikarnika’s Producer Kamal Jain told Mid-day that they want to release the film between August and September but they have not finalised the date yet.

“We have mounted the movie on a scale that’s hard to imagine. We don’t want to clash or release too close to a film that can eat into our business. While we want to release the film between August and September, we haven’t zeroed in on a date yet” he added.

The heroine of the film Kangana Ranaut addresses on the delay in its release, said, “If you see, we started shooting of Manikarnika in the month of May last year and now it’s been only one year since we started shooting. We launched the film in Varanasi on May 5 and we started shooting for it in June-July last year. I think when you make a film on a huge scale, then it normally takes one or one and half years but I can say that this year we will be able to release the film.”

This historical period drama stars Kangana Ranaut as Manikarnika, also known as Rani Laxmibai. The valiant queen fought against the British and was a key figure in the initial Independence movement of India. In the film, Kangana will be seen performing war sequences. The story is written by K.V Vijayendra Prasad and the film is directed by the National Award winning director Krish. The film was initially scheduled for release in June.

On the other hand 2.0 which was supposed to release in December, got delayed to January 26. But with PadMan‘s release date, the release was postponed again. Starring Rajinikanth, 2.0 is directed by Shanker and has Akshay Kumar playing the antagonist and Amy Jackson as the female lead. Music is by AR Rahman.
