Margot Kidder, Who Played Lois Lane In The Superman Franchise, Dies At 69

Hollywood actress Margot Kidder, famous for her portrayal of the DC character Lois Lane in the Superman movie series, died in her sleep at her home on Sunday in Livingston, Mont., her publicist Camilla Fluxman Pines confirmed the news.

Born as a Canadian, Kidder rose to fame starring alongside Christopher Reeve in the Superman films between 1970s and 1980s. She became a cast member among some of the big names of the time, including Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman.

But even before her Superman appearance and many other films to come, Kidder performed in TV shows before landing a role in 1970’s Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx opposite Gene Wilder. She later appeared in Sisters, The Great Waldo Pepper with Robert Redford and 1979 horror-flick The Amityville Horror.

Kidder has worked in on more than 70 movies and TV shows. In her later part of the career, Kidder landed a role in the 2014 children’s TV series RL Stine’s The Haunting Hour, for which she won an Emmy award.

Kidder, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, suffered some career setbacks after a public nervous breakdown in 1996. Kidder was an activist and challenged the Iraq War. She was arrested and removed from the White House in 2011 during a protest against the construction of an oil pipeline from Alberta to Texas.

Kidder, who was married and divorced thrice, had a child with her first husband, novelist Thomas McGuane. Her daughter, Maggie, was born in 1976. Kidder has two grandchildren.
