Mel Gibson has been approached to direct the sequel to Suicide Squad. At a Q&A session during the screening of his Oscar-nominated war movie, Hacksaw Ridge, Gibson was asked by the moderator if the reports about him directing a sequel to Suicide Squad were true.
“So is this getting close to a deal or is it a first date?” the moderator asked.
To which Gibson replied, “It’s kind of a first date.”

Rumours of Gibson being courted to direct the sequel have been making the rounds for a while now. While an official offer is yet to be made, Gibson did reveal that he ‘is familiarizing’ himself with the material and ‘is in early talks’.
Suicide Squad, starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevigne, Viola Davis, opened to mixed reviews last year. It was directed by David Ayer, known for films such as End Of Watch and Fury.
