Mersal All Set For Diwali Release, Gets Certified By Censor Board

Mersal is all set to release on Diwali. There was a question mark on the film’s release date as the producers did not get a clearance certificate from the Animal Welfare Board India (AWBI), which is mandatory to get the film certified by the censor board. Now, the AWBI has cleared Mersal but with a warning.

After the clearance certificate, the CBFC also certified the film. According to News 18 Tamil Nadu, the film was certified with two cuts.

Producer Hema Rukmani tweeted:

It’s hardly surprising to see issues before the release of a Vijay film. Thalaiva was banned when the film was set to release as it had dialogues that took a dig at the state government. Objections were raised by some fringe groups demanding a ban on the film. Kaththi faced issues as pro-Tamil groups protested against the production house, Lyca. Thuppaki also landed in trouble over poor portrayal of a certain community. But these films managed to release on time. And Mersal is no exception!
