Actor Vijay met the BJP Prime Ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi at a private hotel in Coimbatore on Wednesday. Modi tweeted pictures of his meeting with Vijay almost immediately and these photos were circulated widely by the actor’s fans on social media sites through Wednesday evening. According to sources close to the actor, Modi had reached out to Vijay earlier as well to try and meet him on his previous trips. “They had asked us if Modiji could meet Vijay on his previous visits. However, since Vijay was busy shooting, the meeting never materialised. Luckily, this time, the shooting was near Pollachi, so the meeting at Coimbatore was easy to arrange,” said the source.

Modi’s meetings with Rajinikanth earlier and now Vijay, have created a buzz around the BJP’s campaign in Tamil Nadu. While the politician and the actor refused to comment on the nature of the meeting to the waiting media, few were willing to buy that this was just a courtesy meeting. Vijay and his father – director S A Chandrasekar have long nurtured political ambitions. Vijay has an organised fan club across the state – sections of which morphed into the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam ahead of the 2011 polls, when he campaigned for the AIADMK.
