Mughizh, the upcoming Tamil film starring Vijay Sethupathi, Regina Cassandra and the former’s daughter Sreeja Vijay Sethupathi, is a children’s film with a realistic approach, says debutant filmmaker Karthik S.
The film is set to be produced by Sethupathi under his home banner Vijay Sethupathi Productions. A song from the film was released on Tuesday by the makers.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about Mughizh, Karthik says, “The film revolves around a 12-year-old girl and her family. It elaborates on the various relationships in a family – between father, daughter, mother, husband, and wife.”
Pointing out that the Tamil word ‘Mughizh‘ means ‘the birth of fragrance’, the debutant notes that the film can be characterised as a family’s journey. “Here, each member finds a new fragrance that will change the prism though which they view life forever.”
Karthik adds that he was inspired by the message, ‘Love is the root cause and medicine of everything’, to write this script. He has based the film’s concept on this line.
The filmmaker first roped in Vijay Sethupathi to play the role of the father and the actor’s daughter Sreeja was added to the cast because they wanted the family to look real and organic.
Regina was then cast in the role of the mother. Karthik says, “Regina’s approach towards the character of a mother made her perform the part beautifully.”

“Apart from them, the film also features a dog named Scooby. It was a conscious decision to not work with a trained dog. This also made all the emotions on set seem real. This dog has a very unique character. All three actors were conscious about making the animal feel comfortable. It was all candid,” he adds.
The film, which has music by Revaa and editing by Govindaraj, went on floors in 2019 and was completed in 2020. It was shot in Chennai by cinematographer Sathya Ponmar.
The makers are yet to plan the mode and date of Mughizh’s release.
