The makers of Manmadhudu 2, featuring Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh, are working extra time for the film’s trailer, due to release on July 25. And, from the looks of it, it does not seem like there’s any sign of stress over the romantic scenes, like some would have us believe.
Director Rahul Ravindran, who made a smashing debut last year with Chi La Sow, tweeted a scene from the recording studio, where the music for the trailer was being created.

The team and some people backing it has been facing backlash from a section of people and the Telugu media since the film’s teaser released last month. Actress Samantha Akkineni, Nagarjuna’s daughter-in-law who plays a cameo in the film, and singer Chinmayi, whose husband is Rahul , were also attacked for promoting the film, primarily because of their support for the MeToo movement and their stand against some statements of Kabir Singh director Sandeep Vanga.
The teaser shows Nagarjuna playing an older bachelor who wants to get hitched, and says, “I don’t fall in love, I only make love.” His decision is met with disbelief from his family members who don’t know about his playboy life. The second teaser released last week, introducing Rakul Preet Singh’s character also as free-spirited, who smokes and drinks and has no qualms about her sexuality.
For over a month now, the team has been fending off trolls who have latched on to the scenes featuring Rakul in the two teasers. Rakul said in a recent interview to Pinkvilla that she was not bothered by the trolls, and also said that Shahid Kapoor in Kabir Singh and several other actors have smoked in films, and they were not accused of promoting smoking.
Samantha and Chinmayi have been accused of double standards by Sandeep’s suporters on Twitter, after the frequent collaborators and friends called out the director for his misogynistic comments in an interview. They wondered if Manmadhudu 2 was not derogatory to women.
