Actress Nayanthara is reportedly in talks to play the role of Sita in an upcoming multi-lingual film based on Ramayana, written by Sreedhar Raghavan and directed by Nitesh Tiwari and Ravi Udyawar.
According to a report by Asianet News, Telugu producer Allu Aravind has approached Nayanthara with the script. An official announcement is not out yet.
The film is planned on a big scale, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and will release in 3D. Two sequels will also be made later, and each movie will cost Rs 500 crores. The shooting is likely to begin in December, and a release can be expected in 2021.
The ambitious project was announced by producers Allu Aravind, Madhu Mantena and Namit Malhotra back in 2017. This week, Mumbai Mirror reported that Nitesh Tiwari, the director of Dangal and Chillar Party, and Ravi Udaywar who made the Sridevi-starrer Mom, are on board.
Talks are on with leading actors in Bollywood and other industries. For the role of Sita, it is said that the makers thought Nayanthara would be most apt.
Nayanthara played Sita in Sri Rama Rajyam in 2011, directed by Bapu, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna as Rama. The film became a worldwide commercial success and Nayanthara won The Best Actress award twice at the Nandi Awards and 59th Filmfare Awards South that same year.
However, she faced criticism for playing Sita in the film while being in a relationship with others in her personal life. Recently, actor Radha Ravi’s sexist remarks at the audio launch of Kolaiyuthir Kaalam was hugely criticised. Nayanthara, who rarely gives public statements, condemned him and everyone who encouraged his speech. On his question of how she chose to play a goddess in her film, she said, “I will continue to take up the multifaceted role of Sita, ghost, goddess, friend, wife, lover, so on and so forth with the sole intention of providing maximum entertainment to my fans.”
Nayanthara is currently busy with shoot for Bigil and Darbar, and also has Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Love Action Drama and Kolaiyuthir Kaalam in the pipeline.
