Nayanthara-starrer Airaa, which was recently certified U/A by the censor board, is all set to hit the screens on March 28. The film, directed by Sarjun, also stars Kalaiyarasan, Yogi Babu, Maathevan and Gabrella Sellus. Shoot for the film was recently wrapped. The film’s production house KJR Studios confirmed this on Twitter.

Going by the teaser, the story seems to be based around a woman who feels unloved. As with Sarjun’s other films — Lakshmi which was about an extra marital affair, and Maa – about teenage abortion – we see the director attempting to portray what women go through in Nayanthara-starrer Airaa.
In addition to showing Nayanthara’s two characters with visibly different personalities, we see cuts to black and white scenes to differentiate her second character from the first. The film is produced by KJR studios, who had earlier financed Nayanthara’s Aramm. The technical crew consists of Sudarsan Srinivasan (cinematography), Priyanka Ravindran (screenplay), Karthik Jogesh (editing) and KS Sundaramurthy (music).

Director Sarjun spoke to the The News Minute and said, “After Maa released, I got a call from Rajesh sir (Kotapadi J Rajesh of KJR Studios), he asked me if I had a one-liner for Nayanthara. He added that they preferred a horror drama. He heard the story I had in mind, and then made me sit with Nayanthara who liked it too. In fact, she had liked Maa a lot.”
Nayanthara, who is known to pick films that have women in important roles, was recently seen in Maya, Aramm, Kolamaavu Kokila, Dora and Imaikkaa Nodigal. Airaa is her third horror-thriller film after Maya and Dora, both of which were well-received for her performance.
Her upcoming films include the thriller Kolayuthir Kaalam, directed by Chakri Toleti. She plays the lead in Sivakarthikeyan’s Mr Local by director Rajesh, the Malayalam film Love Action Drama, directed by Dhyan Sreenivasan, and the Telugu period drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.
