Netflix has announced that it will add two ‘Made in India’ series to its lineup. Selection Day is one of the two shows, and is based on Aravind Adiga’s book of the same name, themed around cricket. The other is Again, a show featuring a woman detective, and written by Marisha Mukerjee, who also wrote Quantico.
Indian Express quotes Eric Barmack, a VP at Netflix, saying, “We are excited to be expanding our slate of originals in India. These projects have specifically local subjects, but will be great for our global audience, and are supported by world class talent.”
Silverscreen had earlier also reported that Netflix is producing Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra’s novels.
Selection Day will be produced in association with a British production house, Seven Stories, based on Aravind Adiga’s book on Bombay, Cricket, and rivalry in sports.
A report in the Hindustan Times quotes Anand Tucker of Seven Stories saying, “When I first read Selection Day I was completely overwhelmed by the scale and ambition of Aravind’s vision – and moved to my core by its emotional power. We are delighted to be working with Netflix on what feels like a new chapter in the age of global storytelling, and we are bowled over by Erik and his team’s passion for this story.”

Again, set in Delhi, tells the story of a detective who discovers that an ongoing murder investigation is connected to past cases. She must now hunt down a serial killer.
Speaking about the story, Marisha Mukerjee said, “When it comes to telling groundbreaking evocative stories, I cannot think of a better partner than Netflix to bring this show to India and to audiences across the globe. Again not only speaks to my own duality and cultural heritage, but also to the universal grey that exists between life and death, where religion intersects justice.”
