Nikhil Gowda, son of Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, plays Abhimanyu in this film. He recently announced that he will be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. So the delay in release this time is because the team is yet to get a clearance from the Election Commission, which prohibits the promotions of its candidates during the time of elections.

According to a report by Cinema Express, producer Muniratna Naidu said, “The film is made in both 2D and 3D and it got delayed due to the extensive graphics. Now, we are ready with the product and as planned, I am very keen to release this April 1st week. But since Nikhil is part of our film, if I want to go ahead with the planned release date, I will have to lose out the entire Mysuru region.”

The makers have approached the Election Commission for release clearance. A mega-audio launch was planned for March 23, and a clearance for this is also awaited.

This Mahabharata-based film is Kannada actor Darshan’s 50th movie. Writer JK Bharavi has written its script, reportedly drawing inspiration from Kannada literature. The music for the film is by V Harikrishna, cinematography is by Jayanan Vincent, and editing by Jo Ni Harsha.

The film is made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, and there are plans for its release it in various languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. The film also features V Ravichandran, Arjun Sarja, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Sneha, Meghana Raj, P Ravi Shankar, Sonu Sood, Nikhil Gowda, Aditi Arya and Shashi Kumar. Late actor Ambareesh will be seen in a supporting role in the film.

Meanwhile, Nikhil Gowda is working on another multi-lingual film with Lyca Productions, and his Kannada film Seetharama Kalyana is also scheduled for release this year.

He earlier spoke to the media about his desire to join politics and contest the upcoming polls from Mandya constituency. “As the Chief Minister’s son, I have some responsibilities. It doesn’t mean that my film career is over. I will act in films and concentrate on politics,” he said. Nikhil Gowda is the grandson of HD Deve Gowda, from the JD(S) party.
