As per a report in Hindustan Times, Kareena Kapoor’s chartered accountant Prakash Thakkar approached the BKC police station in Mumbai and told them an unidentified person had used her pan card details to file returns on her behalf. The unidentified person had uploaded a false version of the Ki and Ka actress’ tax returns for the year 2016-2017. When she tried to file her returns later, she realised it was already done.

On the basis of his complaint, an FIR was filed in October 2016 under Section 419 (heating by impersonation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 66 and 66 C of the Information Technology Act, which deals with identity theft (use of computer dishonestly, fraudulently and making use of the electronic signature, password or any other unique identification feature of a person).

The person was traced back to a state in North India through his IP (Internet Protocol) address on Sunday and was brought to the city by the cyber police. The accused is said to have hacked the 36-year-old actress’s account in the hope of getting her personal phone number. The police said the accused knew his way around filing income tax and helped his colleagues often in filing their returns.

The police say he used his mobile phone to hack the account. The police have refused to divulge into details of how he obtained Kareena Kapoor’s pan card details.
