Shaken by the Ayanavaram incident where a child with a hearing impairment was sexually assaulted for months in the so-called safety of the Chennai’s apartment complex she lived in, actor-director Radhakrishnan Parthiban has penned a verse calling for more awareness.

அறுத்தெறியுங்கள்!
Here’s Silverscreen’s translation that he has approved.
Castrate them!
This minute,
This hour,
Here, there, somewhere,
A sexual assault is taking place.
Possibly, while watching today’s happening on television.
How do we stop this?
Because,
Last week, last month, last year,
Like flies, our sorrow was
weakly hovering over the congealed blood of another little girl.
This 17th too, a few more brutes have plucked the petals of a bluepea flower that can’t even hear.
Let us sharpen our eyes and ears
To identify the lustful beasts in human disguise
And, castrate them!
Parthiban said that there has to be an end to these agonising incidents. “We keep speaking about them, we feel bad and then the next such incident sends us back into agony. It is time we looked around and safeguard our children. It is possible someone in the apartment saw the child standing in an isolated place but did not do anything about it, thinking it was not in their place to do so. It is our duty to look after children, ours, others, the world’s.”
The actor said he was happy that lawyers had taken a call to not represent the 17 people accused of the crime. “Years ago, I had made a written request to lawyers to not represent people who are guilty of heinous crimes. They said the law required them to represent both parties, but I’m glad they decided to not take up this case. While I felt bad seeing them thrash the accused in court yesterday, I hope the pain will be felt by those who might turn offenders in the future. We need a strong deterrent to stop this. Rehabilitation must be thought of later. First, we must instill fear that such acts with be met with punishment.”
Other film personalities have reacted to the news as well:

We need harsher & quicker punishment for all those who are involved in the minor rape case.why can’t the judicial system burn their midnight oil & punish them immediately & in PUBLIC, to ensure no such unspeakable crime repeats

How many more victims should we have sacrifice to bring death penalty for rape. One more such gruesome incident. Shocked & Angered to know that 17 Crooks have gangraped an innocent Girl Child in Chennai. My Heart goes to such victims who are never safe in our so called society.
