Actor-director Pawan Kumar’s upcoming Kannada language thriller, U-Turn, will be distributed across India by Drishyam Films. According to a Forbes report, this will be the production company’s first foray into the distribution business.
U-Turn is a crime-thriller about a young investigative reporter who gets entangled in a series of murders. Pawan Kumar’s Lucia, which was released in 2013, was a crowd-funded drama/thriller centred on the theme of lucid-dreaming. A path-breaking work in the Kannada film industry, Lucia received widespread acclaim within India and internationally. The film won a number of awards, including the Audience Choice Award at the London Indian Film Festival. The film was remade in Tamil as Ennakkul Oruvan, with Siddharth playing the lead role.

Drishyam Films has produced several unconventional projects in the past two years. Starting with Ankhon Dekhi, a 2014 film directed by Rajat Kapoor, the production house went on to fund acclaimed films like Prashant Nair’s Umrika and Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dhanak. Drishyam’s CEO, Shiladitya Bora, said in the report, “We had been planning to get into distribution for quite some time, and U Turn seems like the ideal film to kickstart this brand new venture of Drishyam.”
