The two and a half minute trailer begins with a voice-over of Vijay Sethupathi who explains his inability to reach Rajinikanth. We see Rajini as Kaali with an old swag, speaking punch dialogues in his very own style. His look makes us nostalgic of his films from the ‘90s.

Amidst the mass scenes with Rajini, there are happy moments with Simran and Sasikumar, who seems to be Rajini’s friend in the film. Rajini is seen in a classic black casual look, the lead women – Trisha Krishnan and Simran too look simple and elegant.

The background score with dialogues like “Sirapana, tharamana sambavangala inemel dhaan paaka pora,” creates the perfect Rajini hype to look forward to. It says the best is yet to come. The trailer promises a commercial, mass entertainer.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Petta has a huge star cast with Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simhaa, Megha Akash, and Sananth in important roles. Music is by Anirudh Ravichander.

The film’s title loosely translates to mean ‘territory’. Rajinikanth might once again play a man who protects a territory or an area, like his roles in Pa Ranjith’s Kaala and Kabali. But from Petta’s trailer and character posters, and from what we know of Karthik Subbaraj’s films in Tamil, this might be different.
