A E Manoharan, popularly known as Surangani Manohar or Ceylon Manohar, passed away on Monday at his residence in Chennai. He was 73.
Manohar, the veteran Tamil pop singer’s career spanned over 40 years. He had also worked in Bollywood and the Sri Lankan film industry. Born in Sri Lanka, Manohar acted in several Sri Lankan and Indian movies as well, according to Tamil News.
His song ‘Surangani’ made him popular and attained him many followers in the 1970s and 80s in Tamil Nadu. He had also acted in Tamil television serials such as ‘Athipookal’, ‘Thirumathi Selvam’ and ‘Anjali’. According to reports, he had also acted alongside Sivaji Ganeshan Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan and with Dharmendra in Bollywood.

Manohar has stepped into the entertainment business as an actor in the early 60s. He then moved on to make various pop songs in Tamil, Sihala and even in English. His famous hits include ‘Surangani Surangani’, ‘Chinna Maamiye’ and ‘Urikka Urikka’.
His last rites will be held in Chennai on Wednesday.
