Thanu Kumar, the director of Poriyaalan has revealed recently that it’s a light hearted film with a social message at its core. As the title suggests, the film is the tale of a civil engineer who wants to make it big in life. “There’s greed, romance, deceit and enough action to keep you all entertained!” promised Thanu Kumar. Talking of the inspiration behind the project, he said, “I’ve always liked intelligent films – the kind of movies that have a purpose. The problem with this genre is that they are often dark and depressing. I have tried to make it lively.”

The film is based on a real incident hat happened to a friend of Manimaran, the film’s screenplay and dialogue writer. “This actually happened in real life. I’ve added a little drama to it, but for the most part we’ve stayed true to the premise,” he adds.
Starring Harish Kalyan and Anandhi in the lead, the movie has been produced by popular filmmaker Vetrimaaran under his Grassroots Films banner. MS Jones has composed the music. Vendhar Movies has acquired the film and will distribute it throughout the state soon.
