Lakshmi, a dance drama featuring Prabhu Deva in the role of a dance teacher, tells the story of his relationship with a student. Ditya Bhande, who won the 2016 Super Dancer contest, plays the role of his student. How Prabhu Deva coaches a team of kids for a dance competition forms the crux of the movie.

“Ditya will easily eclipse all of us on screen,” said Prabhu Deva who also went on to call her a ‘genius’. Director Vijay was also all praise for Bhande. The film produced by V.Ravindran under the banner of Trident Arts marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Prabhu Deva. “Prabhu Deva sir was like a godfather to the entire team of Lakshmi,” said Viay.

The movie also stars Aishwarya Rajesh. Even though she was initially a little apprehensive about taking up the role of a single mother, all those were sorted once she read the script. “I was on the lookout for peppy girl roles after Kaaka Muttai. This offer came to me while I was in Singapore shooting for Parandhu Sella Vaa. I was reluctant to take up the role initially. But soon after hearing the script by Vijay sir, I couldn’t say no,” said Rajesh.

Apart from Aishwarya Rajesh, the movie also features Karunakaran, Kovai Sarala and Salman Yusuff Khan. Music for the movie has been composed by Sam C.S. The composer, who grew up on Prabhu Deva’s movies, said scoring music for the film was a huge responsibility for him.

Nirav Shah who regularly collaborates with Vijay cranks the camera for the movie. The film will release simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil.
