Charlie Chaplin 2, a sequel to the 2002 film Charlie Chaplin, is a romantic comedy directed by Shakthi Chidambaram. The trailer was unveiled during Pongal, and the film is set to hit screens on January 25.
The two minute-and-twenty second trailer shows Prabhu Deva as a playful someone who invites trouble. This film, however, is not a continuation of the previous movie in which Prabhu plays the role of a savior. Gayathri Raghuram, who was the female lead in the first movie, has been replaced by Nikki Galrani.
The dialogue – “Thappu panradhu thappe illa. Aana thappa maraikradhukkaga panra thappu iruke, adhan indha ulagathulaiye miga periya thappu” – serves as a connect to the previous film which revolves around this core plot.
The first Charlie Chaplin was one of the biggest hits in South Indian cinema in the early 2000s. The film was later remade into five other languages including Bollywood as No Entry starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and many other stars.
Apart from Prabhu Deva and Nikki Galrani in the lead, the film also stars Prabhu Ganesan, Adah Sharma, Samir Kochhar, Aravind Akash, Vivek Prasanna and Abhirami.

Charlie Chaplin 2 is produced by T Siva, under the banner of Amma Creations. The music for the film has been compiled by Amresh Ganesh. Senthil and Rajalakshmi, winners of Super Singer, a TV programme, sang ‘Chinna Machan’ for the film. The song became a huge hit, crossing over 7 million views. Prabhudeva made his debut as a lyricist with this film for the song ‘Ivala Romba’.
Nikki Galrani was last seen in the 2018 film Pakka directed by debutant SS Surya, co-starring Vikram Prabhu and Bindu Madhavi. Her upcoming films include Kee, a psychological thriller directed by Kalees and produced by Michael Rayappan. Jiiva and Anaika Soti are her co-stars. Vishal Chandrasekhar has composed music.
