Choreographer-actor-director Prabhu Deva’s former associate Kathiravan makes his directorial debut with Kodai Mazhai, starring newcomer Kannan, and Sri Priyanka, of Vandha Mala fame. Kodaimazhai revolves around the struggle between a military man and a police officer. The script is set in Sankarankoil in Tirunelveli, and peppered with romantic and comic elements.

Kodai Mazhai is likely to release on January 1. Produced under the Yazh Thamizhthirai banner, the film was shot over 65 days in Tirunelveli. The cast was taken to Sankarankoil fifteen days before the shoot to learn the local slang, body language, and facial expressions. Interestingly, Kathiravan has said that the film had no negative characters.
Lyricist Vairamuthu, who has penned four songs for the film, said, “I feel so content after watching Kodai Mazhai. Kathiravan has depicted the drought in Tamil Nadu beautifully.”
Actor Kalanjiyam, who plays Sri Priyanka’s brother in the film, said that Imman Annachi’s comedy track had worked wonders for the script.
