Rajinikanth & Ajith Fans Clash, Mobs Attack ‘Petta’ Posters

The fandom for stars in south Indian cinema is getting crazier by the day. It is known that things between Ajith Kumar and Vijay fans are never smooth, but this time round it was an Ajith vs. Rajini battle.

Since the release of Petta and Viswasam this morning, fights between Rajini and Ajith fans have erupted outside theatres, with fans tearing banners of Rajini’s Petta. At a leading theatre in Koyambedu, Chennai, Ajith fans reportedly asked the theater management to screen Viswasam at 4 am, instead of showing Petta in all six screens. When the management didn’t agree, an angry mob attacked cutouts and banners outside the theater.

When Rajinikanth fans saw them tearing the banners, they reportedly had verbal fights which soon turned violent. It is said that the place was at unrest for a few hours.

Things got worse when two fans were stabbed while fighting to get through a crowd. 20-year-old Prasanth and his 30-year-old uncle Ramesh, from Kalinjur in Katpadi taluk, were trying to get seats for the 3 am show.

Prashanth sustained grievous injuries, and has a gash on his head. He is being treated at the Adukkamparai Government Hospital in Vellore. Ramesh was stabbed on his hand. A police case is registered against those who stabbed them under the IPC section 307 (Attempt to murder).

In another instance from Katpadi taluk, Pandian, a beedi worker from Dharapadavedu was set on fire allegedly by his 20-year-old son Ajith Kumar, as he didn’t give him money for a special show of Viswasam.

Ajith Kumar was enraged on being denied money for the tickets of a special show. He poured petrol from his bike on Pandian’s face and set him on fire when Pandian was asleep at midnight.

It is said that Pandian has sustained 40% burn injuries, and is presently being treated at Adukkamparai Government Hospital in Vellore, while Ajith has been arrested by Virudampattu Police.
