Weeks before the release of his upcoming movie 2.0, Rajinikanth is making political statements, clarifying ones made earlier, and responding to criticism that has come his way.
At a press conference earlier today, he said, “Rajinikanth is not muttal [stupid].” The actor was responding to the backlash he’s been facing since Monday, criticising him of not knowing the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case. Rajini clarified that the reporter’s question was vague, and he simply wanted to know who were the seven he was referring to.
He also clarified his earlier comment about BJP being a ‘dangerous party’, and said, “If the opposition parties think BJP is dangerous, it must be dangerous to them. Whether it really is dangerous or not is for the people to decide. I cannot comment on this, I haven’t entirely stepped into politics yet.”
On being asked his personal opinion, however, he said, “If ten people come together to stand up against one, you tell me – who is stronger?”
He also reiterated that his position on Sarkar controversy was the same. “I’m against violence in protests… but I do think freebies are 100 percent needed. Who gets what, and how much is important, and freebies must not be given out for votes only,” he said. Rajini didn’t respond to other questions about his entry into politics, and possible alliance with any political party.
