Director Ram Gopal Varma is at loggerheads with the Telugu Film Chamber. The chamber had issued a statement recently in which it asked the Special Investigation Team to treat the drug racket case (in which several film celebrities are allegedly involved) with sensitivity. In the statement, the chamber also expressed its apologies for the shame the scandal had brought to the industry and the state.
Responding to this, Ram Gopal Varma slammed the chamber and said,
“The 11 celebrities in the case are innocent until proven guilty. How can the chamber convict these actors without any proof? Even the SIT are still investigating their connections and haven’t come to any conclusion yet. So, the real shame is the Chamber’s apology to the State Government.”
He also urged the actors called in for questioning by the SIT to speak up. “This must have caused you a lot of anguish. If at all you feel like, do speak up. If this case had been in court, then you’d be wise not to. But that is not the case, so it is time all of you came out with your version of the events.”
The drug scandal has ruled headlines in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh since it came to light in July this year. Actors Charme Kaur, Ravi Teja, Puri Jagannadh, Tarun Kumar, Navdeep, art director Chinna and Baahubali fame Subba Raju were all called in for questioning by the SIT. At present, it is not known whether the allegations against these actors have been proved by the drug enforcement wing.
