Rani Mukerji Returns To Acting With ‘Hichki’

Rani Mukerji Hichki

Rani Mukerji, who has been away from cinema (since her last release Mardaani in 2014), is reportedly doing a film called Hichki. The film will be directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, and produced by Maneesh Sharma.

Said to be a story that will inspire many, Rani told IANS in a statement that the character ‘turns her weakness into a strength’ in the film. “I was looking for a script that would challenge and excite me, and Hichki came my way. Each of us has a weakness that pulls us back. It could be a disability or any condition, but if we just look at it as simply a hiccup, we can emerge as a winner. It won’t come in the way of achieving our dreams. Hichki is built on this positive premise and I decided to take it up.”

Speculations were rife about Rani’s comeback since last year, soon after her daughter, Adira turned one. And recently, a report said that Rani will not be starring in Siddharth’s film. According to PTI, “the director is working on a couple of scripts including a love story and a drama film, but none of these projects are with Rani Mukherji and Yash Raj Films”. There were also reports of Shoojit Sircar doing a women-oriented film featuring Rani, Madhuri Dixit and Parineeti Chopra, but this news also turned out to be false as the Piku director denied them.

Siddharth Malhotra had reportedly offered this film to Abhishek Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi, both of whom rejected it. Soon enough, Aditya took over and made the film female-centric.

Hichki will be Maneesh Sharma’s third film as a producer with Yash Raj Films after Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2014) and the upcoming film Meri Pyaari Bindu.

For Siddharth P Malhotra though, this will be his first with Yash Raj Films.
