The release of Raj Babu’s Sei, starring Nakul and Aanchal Munchal, has been delayed. The production house, through a press release, said that the decision was made due to the unavailability of screens. The movie, which was originally slated for a November 16 release, will now release on November 23.
Produced by Trippy Turtle Productions, Sei and three other movies – Chithiram Pesuthadi 2, Kaatrin Mozhi and Utharavu Maharaja – were gearing up for release on November 16 after obtaining the required clearance from the Tamil Film Producer’s Council (TFPC). With Vijay Antony’s Thimirupudichavan announcing its plan to release on the same date, the threat of unavailability of screens loomed large.
A new rule of the TFPC mandated that small and medium budget films approach the council to obtain a suitable release date. Thimirupudichavan, which was allotted a November 6 release, failed to reach theatres on the said date because of Vijay’s Sarkar which released on the same day and had a mammoth share of the screens. After following due procedure, the makers of Kaatrin Mozhi, Sei, Utharavu Maharaja and Chithiram Pesuthadi 2, had obtained the necessary clearance to release on November 16.
The makers of Thimirupudichavan had cited that their prior procurement of censor certificate than the other four movies automatically qualified them to release alongside these movies. However, the manner in which they had handled the matter did not go down well with the TFPC, which vowed strict action against those defying their rules.

Calling out Thimirupudichavan for cutting the queue, the makers of Sei then cited this as the reason for delaying the release of their film. Dhananjayan, producer of Kaatrin Mozhi too, objected the move by the makers of the Vijay Antony-starrer.
The official spokesperson for Sei said, “Due to the release of Thimirupudichavan, Sei had to be pushed back and will now release on November 23.”
The release of Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 too, is said to have been postponed.
