A day after singer Armaan Malik and actress Sonakshi Sinha sparred on Twitter over the latter allegedly performing at an upcoming Justin Bieber concert in Mumbai, actress Richa Chadda and singer Sona Mohapatra have joined the fray.
In an interview with the Indian Express, Richa spoke about how an artiste is an artiste irrespective of whether they sing or act or whether they were good at both. She said, “Sonu Nigam has acted, Sukhwinder Singh has acted, Monali Thakur has acted, there are so many good looking singers who can act, and there are so many good looking actors who can sing. Artistes are artistes. There should be enough freedom, if someone wants to make a painting, or sing, or dance. People should be allowed to do what they want to do. I don’t think an actor can ever replace a professional singer because their training, their ‘riyaaz’ is their craft and nobody can take that away from them.”
Singer Sona Mohapatra, however, felt that Sonakshi was arrogant to have given her opinion on art and an artiste’s rights, if she wasn’t going to perform in the first place. In a series of tweets, Sona said:
Dear Sonakshi,if you weren’t ‘performing’ at the Bieber concert like you now proclaim, then u could have just said so & not talked about (1)

your ‘art’, your ‘dreams’ & your rights on the live performance stage. Also insulting a composer & live artist who you claimed literally (2)

ran after you to ‘collaborate’ with them. You actually laughed at them & talked down to them, instead of telling the truth? Gracious! ??(3)

Dear lady, you were condescending to real musicians & singers all through & continue to be with this juvenile ‘face saving’ post now. SAD. https://t.co/esK5ZLnLob

And when Sonakshi blocking her, she tweeted:
Hahahaha! Not that I’d ever followed this bundle of talent, grace & intelligence. pic.twitter.com/ncUJAvpIlI

The debate of actors turning singers began when singer Kailash Kher, in a recent interview, spoke about how if actors sing then singers would be left without a job. Agreeing with him, 21-year-old singer Armaan Malik called out Sonakshi Sinha’s supposed performance with Justin Bieber and said actors should stay out of a singer’s playground.

Meanwhile, after insisting that the brothers Armaan and Amaal Malik wanted her to sing for them, Sonakshi Sinha released a statement refuting the news that she would be performing with Bieber in his upcoming concert in Mumbai.
