Veteran bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor is under fire for allegedly slapping a journalist and reporter during his family’s Ganesh visarjan (immersion of idol) in Mumbai. According to reports, Rishi Kapoor and his brother Randhir Kapoor assaulted journalists while they were trying to get a shot of the duo.
Watch the video of the assault here.
In the video, Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor appear to be slapping and shoving around journalists and cameramen. Rishi Kapoor denied these allegations and said, “If I have indeed slapped them why don’t you show the clip of me slapping? I was behaving like the Mumbai police, trying to monitor the situation. They have misinterpreted it that I misbehaved with the media.”
Ranbir seems to be playing pranks behind my back. Rain was the spoilt sport but so what? Ganpati Bappa Morya!!! pic.twitter.com/8a97BiFh4w

He also defended his temperament saying that since there was heavy rainfall it was hard to maintain one’s cool. “There were so many people and so much media. We have not called them. It is impossible when there is so much rain and public to not lose your temper. When we are respecting God, these small time journalists poke the damn camera on your face,” the actor said.
In response to this, many on social media sites have criticized the actor for his actions.

Meanwhile, a journalist has also slammed the actor for his actions in an open letter. “I am not a nationally known hyphen yet or in your words perhaps just a ‘small time journalist’. But just like you I don’t like anti-nationals and abusers. And I am sure you will agree that anger, abuse and subsequent violence are no answers as you rightly pointed out on your Twitter timeline on September 12,” he said in his letter.
The reporter was referring to the actor’s tweet appealing for peace during the Cauvery issue. Rishi Kapoor had tweeted:
I may not know the Cauvery waters problem(TN/KA).But violence is no answer. Law and Order must prevail. Bengluru is an international IT hub!

Reiterating the actor’s own words, the journalist said, “Such anger and such violence just for covering your Ganpati visarjan?” Please come to terms. You may not like the media and ‘small-time journalists’ but violence is no answer.”
He ended his impassioned letter with a snide remark saying, “We believe some day you will stop being the raging bull and delight us off the screen with your quotes the way you do on Twitter.”
