#MeToo features Ritika Singh in the role of a student who is sexually assaulted in college. The censor board raised objections to certain dialogues in the movie, after which the makers approached the Mumbai Revising Committee of the CBFC. They were then to the Chennai Revising Committee, reports TNIE.

The Chennai Revising Committee headed by Gautami has now objected to the title of the movie. Producer Sajid Qureshi has decided to approach the court to find a solution.

The #MeToo movement gained momentum in India as recently as October 2018, when Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta called out Nana Patekar for allegedly harassing her at the sets of a movie. In the south, Vairamuthu, Radha Ravi John Vijay, Gopi Sundar and others were called out.

Hundreds of women joined the movement by naming their perpetrators publicly. The list of people called out included celebrities from the world of films, music, politics and journalism. This led to discussions about ensuring safe working spaces for women, and the setting up Internal Complaints Committee for redressal of issues.

The effects of the movement continue to be felt in cinema, with the popular filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani being called out by a woman in the beginning of this year.

She will play a sports journalist in Arun Vijay’s upcoming film Boxer. “Her role is an important one. In fact, after I roped her in, I added several layers to her character based on her real-life skills,” director Vivek said about her part.

She also has the upcoming film Vanangamudi, opposite Arvind Swamy and Simran.
