The teaser of Rock On!! 2, the sequel to one of the best rock musical dramas Bollywood has ever produced, Rock On (2008), is out. Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and directed by Shujaat Saudagar, Rock On!! 2 brings back the much-loved music band, Magik – this time, with new members.
Akhtar as Aditya Shroff has returned, with his wife Sakshi, played by Prachi Desai, by his side, his lead guitarist Joe (played by Arjun Rampal sans the long locks from the first film), drummer KD played by a chirpy Purab Kohli who hasn’t aged at all, and Shraddha Kapoor – the new vocalist. Shashank Arora of Brahman Naman fame is there, too, albeit for a brief second.
The teaser begins with a shot of Farhan Akhtar rowing a boat on a placid lake. With Akhtar’s reed-thin voice in the background, spouting the reasons for making a come-back, the teaser shifts to the music band setting up systems for their performance, boasting of new additions ever since Kenny’s demise in the previous film.
While this marks Magik’s return after a gap of eight years, the teaser appears to focus on their new female keyboardist-turned-vocalist, played by Shraddha Kapoor, with Akhtar playing somewhat of a sensei, mouthing encouragements to her. “Tumhare ander jo sangeet hai, woh bahut kam logon ko naseeb hota hai (Very few people are lucky to have the kind of music you have inside you),” he tells her. And there born is a rockstar, with Shraddha also proving her mettle as a singer in the film. She sounds fairly professional too, in the brief duet heard with Akhtar.

Arora’s character is that of the band’s bass player – a titular part of any band that was missing in the first film. But very little is said about him in the teaser.
Directed by Shujaat Saudagar this time, the director of the first film – Abhishek Kapoor – is the scriptwriter for this one. The film is slated for a 11 November release this year.
