Marathi director Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat will soon be remade in all four south Indian languages. According to a Bangalore Mirror report, Sandalwood producer Rockline Venkatesh has bought the remake rights of the film in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
The remakes will be co-produced by Rockline Entertainment and Zee Studios, the producers of the original Marathi film. Sairat, which tells the story of two star-crossed lovers, has broken all box-office records in Marathi cinema by grossing over Rs 60 crore in seven weeks.
Venkatesh told the Mirror that the remakes will not run into a controversy over the portrayal of castes. “As you have seen it has been handled well in the Marathi film,” he was quoted as saying.
