Samantha Ruth Prabhu will appear in award-winning Welsh director Philip John’s next film, Arrangements of Love, the actor confirmed on social media, on Friday.
The film will go on floors in August 2022, according to a Variety report. John has shows such as Downton Abbey and The Good Karma Hospital to his credit.
Arrangements of Love is an adaptation of the 2004 novel by the same name by author Timeri N Murari.
It follows a Welsh-Indian man on his quest to find his estranged father, with an impromptu visit to his homeland. Samantha’s character, a bisexual Tamil woman, runs a detective agency and helps the man in his search, as per the report. The report further added that Samantha, will essay the role of a “progressive bisexual Tamil woman, with ultra-traditional parents, who want her to have an arranged marriage.”
In her social media post, Samantha wrote that she had auditioned for the role. “I last auditioned in 2009 for Ye Maya chesave . 12 years later, and auditioning again,I felt the very same nervousness….I guess it’s not everyday you get to audition for a BAFTA award winning , critically acclaimed , director of your most favourite series ‘Downton Abbey’. Jumping for joy that you picked me sir,” she wrote.
The film is produced by Sunitha Tati’s Guru Films, which also backed Oh! Baby, the 2019 Telugu-language adaptation of 2014 South Korean film Miss Granny. Oh! Baby also featured Samantha in the lead role.

Speaking to Variety, Samantha said, “A whole new world opens up for me today as I start my journey with Arrangements of Love, which has such an endearing and personal story. I am excited to work with Philip John, whose projects I have closely followed for many years, being a big fan of ‘Downton Abbey.’ I am looking forward to collaborating with Sunitha once again and I hope for only more success than we previously had with ‘Oh! Baby’. My role is a complex character and it will be both a challenge and an opportunity for me to play it. I cannot wait to get on set.
Arrangements of Love was the only Asian project to be selected at the Toronto International Financing Forum.
