Sarath Kumar Plays An Encounter Specialist In Velachery Thuppakki Soodu

Sarath Kumar will play an encounter specialist in Velachery Thuppakki Soodu. After the Thoothukudi protests when 11 protesters were killed in police firing, there is a simmering public anger in the state against the Tamil Nadu police and the film’s director, Vendhan is aware of it.

Vendhan says that his film will present both sides. “So far, we have seen movies that show police personnel in a very powerful avatar. In my movie, Iniya is the female lead and she plays a human rights activist. The inter-play between my lead actors itself will present a well-rounded argument. The movie is not pro-police in any way.”

The film went on the floors earlier today. Vendhan says that Sarath Kumar’s character will investigate cases of theft and robbery by North Indian migrants.

“For a few years now, we have heard stories of murders, thefts by North Indians who migrated to our State in search of jobs. This has become a big law and order issue. Sarath sir will play a police officer who investigates such cases. While following some leads, he runs into a North Indian gang and there is an encounter, following which, there is a human rights hearing, which will be the film’s focal point,” Vendhan said.

“All police officers do not set out to kill innocents. They have to protect themselves from criminal elements and sometimes innocents get caught in the crossfire. Sarath Kumar’s character will present the point of view of the police, while Iniya will bat for the innocent victims,” Vendhan added.

The film is slated to release later this year. Vendhan says that the team is prepared for any criticism that comes its way. “It is a controversial topic, but is also the reality,” he said.

T Rajeshwari of VR Movies is the producer of the movie.
