Director Sekhar Kammula recently decided to take action against a fraudster who has been duping several people claiming he’s an assistant of the filmmaker. Apparently, he advertised on a film website regarding auditioning fresh faces for the director’s “next film”.
Kammula’s last film was the blockbuster Fidaa, starring Varun Tej and Sai Pallavi, which, at its heart, was the love story of a girl who did not want to leave the country and a boy who lived abroad.
When Kammula heard about the audition, he got his team to contact the imposter. Apparently, several people had got in touch following the advertisement, because Kammula is known to give opportunities to fresh faces.

“He took a fee of up to Rs 1,800, most of which was deposited into his bank account. This scam went on for a period of almost 25 days. One reason why it worked for so long was because the amount wasn’t huge; and so, no one thought of complaining,” reveals a member of the cybercrime unit.
Things came to light after someone approached the police, who, in turn reached out to Kammula, who was visibly shocked to hear of it.
The case is under investigation.
