Selvaraghavan has confirmed that he will make sequels to Pudupettai and Aayirathil Oruvan. According to News18, he responded to a fan’s comment on Twitter with “I’m just 42-year-old [sic]. I won’t rest till I make ‘Aayirathil Oruvan 2’ and ‘Pudhupettai 2’.”
We were unable to find the tweet, but Selvaraghavan did indeed say this:
A.O 2, pudhupettai 2.?yes. Don’t worry. In those two years of gap, I also wrote sequels. But right now I have commitments???

An old report – dated Jan 2017 – in TOI quotes Selvaraghavan as saying he will make the Aayirathil Oruvan sequel sometime next year.

Pudhupettai (2006) told the story of the rise and fall of a gangster – Kokki Kumar played by Dhanush. The film was a super hit, and was critically acclaimed as well. Dhanush’s performance, the film’s cinematography, and Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music all were praised, earning the film a cult status.
Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) was an adventure-romance in which an archaeologist discovers that a long-lost dynasty still survives. Declared a hit film, it gained Selvaraghavan considerable praise for breaking away from the usual stereotypes of Tamil cinema.
A sequel, therefore, to both films will come with a lot of expectations.
Meanwhile, Selvaraghavan is shooting Mannavan Vanthanadi with Santhanam, and awaiting the release of Nenjam Marapathillai
