The shooting of Chiranjeevi’s historical drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy in Karnataka hit a roadblock after Muslims protested against the placing of idols of Hindu deities at the Solah Khamba Mosque. In order to prevent a clash, the police intervened and an investigation is underway.
According to CE, a controversy erupted on Sunday at the Solah Khamba Mosque inside the Bidar Fort, where the shooting was happening with actor Kiccha Sudeep. “The local Muslim youth were agitated seeing the idols of Hindu deities at the praying area inside the mosque at the fort. They had raised objections after which the unit halted the shoot on Sunday night. But, the production team continued the shoot this morning, which has led to tension between both parties. The intervention of police at an appropriate time prevented any violence,” said a source close to the production unit.
The mob also demanded that the police register a complaint against the film’s director Surender Reddy and actor Kiccha Sudeep for hurting their religious sentiments. This led to a stop on the shoot. “We have obtained prior permission for filming inside the fort from the concerned officer-in-charge of the Archaeological department. But, the police have removed the set property from the fort. Halting a film’s shoot of this magnitude has incurred severe loss amounting to a few crores,” added the source.
Last year, the shooting for the movie had come to a halt when revenue officials of Serilingampally mandal demolished the film sets. The authorities found out that the set was constructed without getting prior permission from the those concerned. They reportedly added that neither the production house nor the landowner obtained any permission from the revenue department to construct the sets and continue shoot.
