The grapevine has had it a long time that Venkat Prabhu would be teaming up with Silambarasan for this next project. And after many versions of the same story, all our anxieties can be laid to rest and we can get a good night’s sleep knowing that the project now has a title. Late on Monday, Venkat Prabhu announced the title of the film on his Twitter account; it is to be called Maanaadu.
The moment all you #Strfans waiting for!!! We are really proud to announce our next #strvp title!! It’s #strmaanaadu #maanaadu #aVPpolitics #vp9 @sureshkamatchi @Deepanboopathy @Vijayakumar1959 @subbu6panchu with all your love and blessings!! #titleposter pic.twitter.com/mg5NWqm0YH

The hashtags tell us that the film might be a political drama but going by what the Prabhu did with his previous film, RK Nagar, where the hype made it sound like a political drama, but finally turning out to be a commercial entertainer, we can’t tell for sure what Maanaadu will be.
The (quite lovely) poster has massive cutouts of politicians that Tamil Nadu is known for, against the backdrop of a sky that’s a frame of the setting sun, and city lights making like stage spotlights for the frozen-in-gesticulation cutouts. The tagline says, “Stand for what is right even if it means standing alone.” Fighting words and this very well could be a film with a social message. Another clue to the political nature of the film could be the bottom of the poster where the title of the film is placed. Maanaadu is written on what looks like a divider, in the brick-red colour and style of political posters around the state. We’ll wait and watch.
It is expected that the the director will discuss the current political scenario prevailing in Tamil Nadu in the film. It is also mentioned that the film will be a summer 2019 release.
As reported earlier, the film is produced by Suresh Kamatchi, who had already announced on social media that the film will have a ‘fresh script’ and will not be a sequel to any of his earlier work.
Yes it’s official!!!! My next is with my brother #Str produced by @sureshkamatchi #2019 #vp9 and it’s a fresh script!! Not a sequel!!! Artists, technicians, title and other details will follow!! Get ready to be rocked!!!! #superthrilled need all ur love and blessing as always!! pic.twitter.com/4zO083zbNi

Meanwhile Prabhu is awiting the release of his film Party, while Simbu has finally wrapped up his much-awaited multi-starrer film Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, directed by Mani Ratnam. The actor is also in talks with Vijaya Studios for a new film and is expected to team up with Kalaipuli S Thanu’s production house for a movie.
