“Since Nachiyaar, I’ve Wanted To Work With GV Prakash As An Actor”: AL Vijay

At the recent press meet for Watchman, director AL Vijay said that since Nachiyaar he had been waiting for an opportunity to work with GV Prakash as an actor. Prakash has worked as a composer on many films by Vijay, including Madarasapattinam, Deiva Thirumagal, Thalaiva, Thaandavam. The upcoming mystery-thriller Watchman is his first acting project with the director.

Speaking at the event in Chennai yesterday, director AL Vijay said, “GV Prakash has been the most important person, for we have journeyed together in many movies. We have been friends beyond films and soon after working in Nachiyaar, I really felt that it would be great to work him as an actor.” Vijay is also credited with working on the character sketch of Prakash in Nachiyaar, by Bala.

AL Vijay said, “As an actor, he has grown so much. He would instantly emote as the script demanded.” Actor Suman, who plays a supporting role in Watchman, also said, “I have been a follower of his music, but his acting skills are really great. He will make a mark as a unique hero in the future. The film too will set an example for movies in the near future.”

Watchman follows the story of a sales boy who finds himself in a life-changing situation one night. Samyuktha Hegde plays the female lead. GV Prakash earlier told Silverscreen, “The lead character lives in a small housing board, and the story is about how this normal man finds himself in an extraordinary situation. The film happens within one night, and it is about the changes in the boy’s life during these hours.”

A dog plays a central character in this film. He is a guardian of his master, and is actually a villain in the film. Prakash said at the press meet, “We needed a lot of patience to shoot with animals but we made it work, and it was interesting with Bruno (the dog). This won’t be a regular thriller, and it is a film to look forward to this summer.”

The filmmakers also thanked the team – actor Raj Arjun, PT Selvakumar, editor Anthony, producer Arunmozhi Manickam, who were present at the event. “Everyone in the film has given their best. Raj has become the busiest person in Bollywood now and I feel lucky to have worked with him after Thaandavam. Suman sir immediately responded to our offer. His scenes with Raj Arjun and GV Prakash are so commendable, I really want to work more with him,” said AL Vijay.

The cinematography for the film is by Nirav Shah and Saravanan Ramasamy, Anthony is the editor, music is by GV Prakash and Arunraja Kamaraj has written the lyrics.
