Arka Media Works has issued a no-objection certificate to release Vijay Sethupathi and Anjali-starrer Sindhubaadh, directed by SU Arun Kumar, on June 27. The film was schedule to release last Friday, but could not due to this issue.
In a release today, Arka Media Works said that the NOC certificate was issued for the benefit of various third parties with whom they had a long-standing association, and also said that this did not amount to settling their financial disputes with SN Rajarajan of K Productions.
The notice said that they reserved the rights to take action against K productions over other films such as Ennai Nokki Paayum Thota – the long-delayed Gautham Vasudev Menon directorial starring Dhanush and Megha Akash in the lead, and Madai Thiranthu / 1945 directed by Sathya Siva, starring Rana Daggubati and Regina Cassandra.

Pujitha G, advocate for Arka Media Works, told Silverscreen yesterday that as of last evening no talks were held with K Productions. At the latest hearing on June 24, the Hyderabad High Court also said that the stay on the film would continue. “The movie cannot release on 27th, the dates circulating on social media are false promotions. We might be initiating a contempt of court as well,” she had said.

The dispute with Arka is over unsettled dues worth Rs 17.6 crore for the 2017 film Baahubali: The Conclusion, which was produced by Arka Media and distributed in Tamil Nadu by K Productions. A stay order was obtained on Sindhubaadh, which was initially scheduled to release last month, and the matter was posted for further hearing on June 24. However, despite the stay, when it was widely promoted that the film would release on June 21, Arka issued a press statement that the promotions amounted to contempt of court. Sindhubaadh did not release on the announced date.
Six Tamil films will release this weekend – Sindhubaadh, Dharma Prabhu, House Owner, Natchathira Janalil, Kaadhal Munnetra Kazhagam and Jiivi. The five films other than Sindhubaadh are small and medium budget movies whose screen count is likely to be affected with Sindhubaadh joining the fray. House Owner director Lakshmy Ramakrishnan had requested Vijay Sethupathi and K Productions to postpone the release and avoid affecting small budget films. “It is their duty to let us know at least 15 days in advance. There should be a fair chance to make sure all films are accessible and watched,” she said.
