Doctor, the recently-released Tamil film starring and produced by actor Sivakarthikeyan, has entered the 100-crore club, the film’s co-producers KJR Studios announced on social media on Tuesday, which marks the 25th day since its release.
The makers also shared a video with visuals of theatres thronged by movie-goers and thanked fans, media, theatre owners, and other stakeholders for the film’s success.
Written and directed by filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar, Doctor is produced by Sivakarthikeyan under his home banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions, with KJR Studios co-producing and acting as the distributor. The film’s cast also includes Vinay Rai, Yogi Babu, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Redin Kingsley, Milind Soman, Ilavarasu, and Archana, among others.
Doctor was initially scheduled to release on March 26. However, the makers postponed the release due to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections that took place in April. Contrary to speculations afterward that the film would opt for a direct-OTT release due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the team waited for cinemas to reopen and released Doctor in theatres on October 9.

Despite opening when Tamil Nadu theatres were still running at only 50% capacity, the film emerged a winner at the box-office. Upon release, Doctor collected around Rs 24 crore in Tamil Nadu in its first three days and gave exhibitors cause for cheer by bringing the crucial family audience back to theatres.
The film also fared well with critics and won praise for its dark humour-infused approach to the subject of human trafficking. Actor Sivakarthikeyan, who is known for being good at comedy, also received praise for his unexpected performance as a stone-faced doctor.
Post its successful theatre run, Doctor is now set to have its world television premiere on Sun TV at 6.30 pm on Thursday (November 4) on the occasion of Diwali.
