The Tamil Nadu film industry along with Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries will go on strike from March 2 to protest against the Digital Service Providers (DSPs) for increasing the Virtual Print Fee (VPF) .
The decision was taken after a recent meeting held by the representatives of the four film industries in Hyderabad. While the cinema theatres will be operational, there will be no new releases from March 1. However, this applies to only regional movies, Hindi and English movies will release as per schedule.
The strike will affect Jiiva’s Kee, sci-fi psychological thriller which was scheduled to release on February 28. Directed by Kalees, the film also stars Govind Padmasoorya, Nikki Galrani, Anaika Soti, Suhasini, and has music by Vishal Chandrasekhar. The film is produced by Michael Rayappan. No new release date has been announced.
Tamil movie Dharavi, Unni Mukundan’s Ira and Kalidasan Jayaram’s much-awaited Poomaram in Malayalam and Kannada films, 3000 which is horror thriller and romantic drama Preethiya Raayabhari, were also supposed to release this week.
If the strike is not called off anytime soon, here are some of the big ticket releases that might get affected. Talks are going on to resolve the issue between the DSPs and the producers and is unlikely that the strike will go on for long.
