Veteran actress and Bollywood’s first female superstar Sridevi Boney Kapoor died today in Dubai, due to a cardiac arrest. She was 54. Her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the news.
The actress was in Dubai along with her husband, Boney Kapoor, and youngest daughter, Khushi, to attend a relative’s wedding.
Sridevi made her acting debut at the age of four in the devotional film Thunaivan. She appeared in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam films as a child actor. Her first role as a leading actor was in K Balachander’s Moondru Mudichu (1976). She went on to work with NT Rama Rao, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan before moving to Bollywood. She made her Bollywood debut with Solva Sawan in 1978.
Sridevi was known for her performances in Mr India, Nagina, Lamhe, Sadma, Chaalbaaz, Chandni, English Vinglish among many others. The Padma Shri recipient was last seen in Mom in 2017.
The news of her death came as a shock with many taking to Twitter to condole her.
