Actress Sridevi’s new look in Tamil action-adventure Puli is already a talking point. The Vijay-starrer has Sridevi playing the leader of a cult group. Director Chimbu Devan, in an interview with TOI, said that the 51-year-old actress’s look wasn’t easy to pull off.

Sridevi had to spend four to five hours in make-up before she faced the camera, he told TOI. The director also praised the actress’s commitment. If the call time was 9 am, Sridevi would start getting ready from 4 am, he was quoted as saying. Sridevi also had no qualms in doing action sequences and a sword fight; wearing outfits and ornaments that together weighed around 10-15 kgs. Also, the team had to shoot in Chennai, during peak summer, for 10-12 hours daily.
The dress, headgear and ornaments that the actress used in the film are original, the director said. It was the actress’s idea to rope in Bollywood’s most-sought-after designer Manish Malhotra to design her costumes for Puli.
Puli was supposed to hit the screens in July, but now it’s known that it will release only towards the end of August, due to the delay in the completion of VFX works.
