Suresh Gopi, the Malayalam actor, released his character reveal poster from his upcoming 251st film on social media on Friday. Many celebrities from Malayalam cinema, including Mohanlal, Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran, also took to their social media pages to share the poster.
Produced by Ethereal Entertainments, the yet-to-be-titled film, tentatively called SG251, is written by Sameen Salim and directed by Rahul Ramachandran. SG251 marks the second directorial venture for Rahul after the 2019 comedy thriller film, Jeem Boom Bha.
Speaking to Silverscreen India about the upcoming film, Rahul says, “It is a revenge based drama thriller that follows a 65-year-old watch mechanic played by Suresh Gopi. He has a dark past and the story unfolds with him taking revenge against a person who had made his life miserable.”
Rahul adds that the first half of the film will be shot in Kochi, while the second half will be filmed in Chennai. “The second half is set in Vada Chennai (North Chennai) in the 1980s and will feature well-known artists from the Tamil industry as well. However, further details of the cast and crew will be officially announced later.”
Rahul recalls how the character reveal poster came about. “On May 25, I reached out to Suresh Gopi sir and asked if we could release a poster of the film marking his 62nd birthday. He liked the idea and gave us the go-ahead. My team worked for around 22 days to create this poster.”
The poster, he tells us, is a representation of a scene from the film. “We have included a lot of clocks in the poster as they hold a great significance in the plot. All other elements in the poster reveal the mood of the film.”

The filmmaker says all the properties seen in the poster, including the books, table and wall clocks, are made using 3D modelling computer graphic technique. “Designers Sethu Sivanandan and SKD Kannan made the character sketch and poster, respectively,” he adds.
Asked about the film’s shooting, Rahul says they need about five months for the pre-production as it a big-canvas film. “We hope to start pre-production in August and then shoot early next year, provided the pandemic situation gets back to normalcy.”
Meanwhile, Suresh Gopi, who was last seen in Anoop Sathyan’s 2020 Malayalam comedy-drama film Varane Avashyamund, has a slew of other films in the pipeline, including Kaaval, Ottakomban and Paappan.
