Director Selvaraghavan’s Nandha Gopalan Kumaran (NGK), starring Suriya, Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead, will have big opening in Kerala on May 31.
The filmmakers said that the number of screens in the state have increased because of Sai Pallavi and Suriya’s fan-base among Malayalam audiences, reports Dinamalar.
Sai Pallavi, one of the most popular actors in south India, made her Malayalam come back after a gap of three years through Athiran in April this year. Suriya has enjoyed a popularity in Kerala for his films like Sillunu Oru Kadhal, Vaaranam Aayiram and the Singham series. He’s also gearing up for Kaapaan, co-starring Mohanlal, which is set to release on August 30.
NGK marks the first collaboration of Suriya and director Selvaraghavan. The actor plays a politician in the film. It was scheduled to release during Diwali last year, but had to be delayed because of the director’s health issues. The shoot wrapped in January, and a teaser released last month.
Bala Singh, Mansoor Ali Khan, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Sarath Kumar and Jagapathi Babu play supporting roles. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and lyrics for one of the songs is by Vignesh Shivan, the director of Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam. Cinematography is by Sivakumar Vijayan, editing by Praveen KL. The film is produced by SR Prabhu’s Dream Warrior Pictures.
Suriya is currently shooting for director Sudha Kongara’s Soorarai Pottru, which is based on the story of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath. The film is produced by Guneet Monga and Suriya’s 2D Entertainment. In April, his next with director Siva was also announced, and latest reports suggest that Nayanthara may star with him in the lead.
Meanwhile, Sai Pallavi has Virata Parvam 1992, a romantic film co-starring Rana Daggubati. The film was announced in November last year but could not take off. It is expected to begin shoot this June.
