Sushant Singh Rajput warned viewers about an unauthorized, dubbed version of Sonchiriya playing in certain theatres. He requested people to alert him about places playing the dubbed Hindi version instead of the original Bundelkhand dialect.
In a note posted on social media, the actor wrote, “A lot of you are writing in to me with heartbreaking reports that the film is released in some ‘dubbed’ version which is not the same as the original version we have created. Please note that I have not dubbed for any version other than the original dialect. And neither have any of my senior actor colleagues who are part of the film and who I’ve spoken with! Please send me names of theatres that you find are playing this ‘dubbed’ version and I will escalate to those concerned. I don’t want our labour of love to be corrupted in any manner. Keep the faith on Sonchirya and keep spreading the good word.”

According to a report in NDTV, fans from Bengaluru, Kolkata and parts of Gujarat alerted the actor about theatres playing a dubbed version of the movie.
Sonchiriya, directed by Udta Punjab fame Abhishek Chaubey released in theatres last week. Due to the stiff competition from Lukka Chuppi – a comedy-drama, Sonchiriya has been faring poorly at the box office, say trade trackers.

Set in Bundelkhand region of Bihar, Sonchiriya is about a gang of dacoits and their lives during the emergency period. The film has an ensemble cast with Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ashutosh Rana and Ranveer Shorey.
It has not brought as many viewers to the theatres as expected. Apart from having niche storyline, one of the reasons for this is believed to be the Bundelkhand dialect.
