Reactions to comedian Michelle Wolf’s performance at the White House correspondents’ dinner was polarizing. While she got slammed by US President Donald Trump and his staffers, comedians across came out in support of her.
Wolf’s roasting of White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was present at the event, caused the furore.
Here are some of the comments which drew ire.
“I actually really like Sarah [Hucakabee Sanders]. I think she’s very resourceful. But she burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. Like maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies.”
“She [Ivanka Trump] was supposed to be an advocate for women, but it turns out she’s about as helpful to women as an empty box of tampons. She’s done nothing to satisfy women. So I guess, like father like daughter.”
“I would drag him here myself, but it turns out that the president of the United States is the one pussy you’re not allowed to grab.”
True to his style, Trump tweeted saying that the comedian totally bombed.” Soon others joined.
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a failure last year, but this year was an embarrassment to everyone associated with it. The filthy “comedian” totally bombed (couldn’t even deliver her lines-much like the Seth Meyers weak performance). Put Dinner to rest, or start over!

My wife @mercedesschlapp and I walked out early from the wh correspondents dinner. Enough of elites mocking all of us

Watching a wife and mother be humiliated on national television for her looks is deplorable. I have experienced insults about my appearance from the president. All women have a duty to unite when these attacks happen and the WHCA owes Sarah an apology.

Tonight’s #WHCD was a disgrace
— Sean Spicer (@seanspicer) April 29, 2018
That @PressSec sat and absorbed intense criticism of her physical appearance, her job performance, and so forth, instead of walking out, on national television, was impressive.

To which Wolf responded:
Hey mags! All these jokes were about her despicable behavior. Sounds like you have some thoughts about her looks though? ?https://t.co/JRzzvhBuey

Many comedians too supported Wolf and said that she has nothing to apologise for.
They call you liars. They call Mexicans rapists. They call Muslims murderers. They support white supremacists. But someone calls them out on what they do, & suddenly they’re heroes for not walking out. https://t.co/B9aT7moy2C

The more I think about it, the more impressed I am that Michelle Wolf did such a harsh act WITHOUT insulting any woman's looks. She aimed straight at the white female enforcers & never once suggested that anyone was a bimbo or a dog—like the man they work for surely would have.

Kudos to @michelleisawolf for making the #WHCD circle jerk as painful and awkward is it deserved to be.
— Anthony Bourdain (@Bourdain) April 29, 2018
If conservatives really thought Michelle Wolf insulted women and mocked their appearance, they would have elected her president

Trivial matters require little to no research. It’s easy to focus your anger on a joke told by a comic, but it’s a lot harder to do the research to really understand the intricacies of a societal crisis. That’s why there’s more anger at Michelle Wolf than Sanders herself today. https://t.co/Q2pr2WdNih

Sarah Huckabee Sanders lies to the American people almost every day and defends the lies, incompetence and cruel behavior of the most unqualified and embarrassing President in modern times. You think the jokes last night were harsh? Wait until history has its way with her.
