Twinkle Khanna had the perfect response to a follower who questioned her on her decision to retain her maiden name after marriage.
A lot of people bring this up,though not as stridently as this gentleman-Khanna it will always be #MarriedNotBrandedpic.twitter.com/q4JzS1bzd1

Her fans reacted favourably, and at times hilariously, to her tweet.
@mrsfunnybones Please change your name to Twinkle Kumari and become 100% sanskaari.

Despite a 2012 legal decision that made it possible for women to retain their maiden name after marriage, cynicism prevails. Many women, especially ones in the spotlight, are often subjected to endless questioning about their decision to not take their husband’s surname post marriage.
Actress Vidya Balan, after her marriage to UTV head Siddharth Roy Kapur, was also asked about her decision. “I don’t know who said that (I am changing my name to Vidya Balan Roy Kapur.) I remain Vidya Balan. I think Sid (Siddharth) and I both feel that since he will remain Siddharh Roy Kapur and not become Siddharth Balan Roy Kapur, so I will remain Vidya Balan and not become Vidya Balan Roy Kapur,” she said.
Kalki Koechlin also reacted similarly. “It’s still ‘Kalki Koechlin’… I’d never want to let go of Koechlin; that’s who I am. Besides, I’m the only child, and it’s like my family legacy, I can never give it up,” she said.

Director Kiran Rao also made public her desire to not be known as ‘Mrs. Khan’. Rao is married to actor Aamir Khan. “Kiran Rao Khan, would sound very stylish I am sure. When you grow up, you hear your name and wish you had a superb name too. Kiran Rao is simple but I have never understood how people can change their names. I am comfortable being who I am and so is Aamir. He shares my point of view and understands me really well,” she said.
Twinkle Khanna married Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar in 2001. Soon after, she decided to quit acting and began a successful career as an interior designer. She is also a keen commentator on current issues and is a popular columnist. Khanna is also a published author. Her debut non-fiction Mrs Funnybones: She’s Just Like You And A Lot Like Me, received mostly favourable reviews upon release.
