Valimai’s makers have remained tight-lipped about the film’s release since it was officially launched in October 2019 in Chennai.

The film is written and directed by H Vinoth and marks his second collaboration with Ajith after Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), the Tamil remake of the Hindi film Pink.

Valimai, which marks the actor’s 60th film, is produced by Zee Studios and Boney Kapoor under his BayView Projects banner, which also backed Nerkonda Paarvai.

According to the makers, the filming of Valimai, which is shot by cinematographer Nirav Shah and edited by Vijay Velukutty, is complete and the film is all set for a worldwide release later this year. The 83-second motion poster, which featured a background score composed by the film’s music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, also hinted that Valimai will have a theatrical release, though a release date has not yet been announced.

Besides Ajith, the film also stars Huma Qureshi, Karthikeya, Bani, Sumithra, Achyunth Kumar, Raj Ayyappa, Pugazh, and Yogi Babu, among others.

Ever since the film’s announcement in 2019, fans have been seeking updates on the project using #ValimaiUpdate on social media, and also at all events and from all manner of people, even those not involved in the project — from then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami during his election campaign to cricketer R Ashwin during a Test match.

This resulted in Ajith issuing a statement asking his fans to maintain decorum at public spaces. He had added that an announcement would be made at the right time.

In February, Kapoor had tweeted that the team was working towards presenting the film’s first look and requested fans to be patient. The first look of Valimai was slated to be unveiled on May 1, on the occasion of the actor’s birthday. However, it was postponed by the makers in view of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

No official announcement was made by the makers about the motion poster release on Sunday beforehand.
